July 2009

We’re all about good news here at UCM and are really happy to confirm that both of our magazine brands
heat and FHM are ahead of budget for the first quarter of this financial year.

In the tough economic climate of the moment, this can only mean that advertisers are getting the return on investment that warrants continued support and our readers just can’t live without their favourite magazine brands. UCM Digital continues to innovate and bespoke advertising campaigns incorporating the UCM digital platforms are proving to be extremely popular with our clients. Check out Nokia Music Store for a taste of the recent FHM powered Nokia campaign.

This is a special year for us, as UCM and FHM turn 10 and heat recently turned 5. We have every intention of ensuring it is memorable, so be sure not to miss out on the loads of opportunities we have to make an impact and stand out from the crowd. Come talk to us, we have some great ideas just waiting for the right brands to partner with!

In celebrating 10 years for UCM and FHM and five years for heat, UCM Marketing Manager Bronwen Pickford, UCM CEO Louis Eksteen and UCM COO Kim Browne took time at the UCM Management Conference to devise strategies for the next decade.

FHM's landmark August issue

FHM’s landmark August issue is one of the best we’ve ever made. And we’re not just saying that! It features the victory shoot of Lyndall Jarvis, winner of FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World. We shot her on the roof of Joburg, and she towers over the cityscape with pure hotness! The mag comes with a free double-sided poster featuring Lyndall, and the Ford Shelby GT500. Why the muscle car? Because it’s FHM Speed, featuring the FHM Motoring Awards 2009, FHM getting caned at the FMX in Mexico City, the latest sports cars, and how to save the planet at 400km/h! There are also rocking FHM tales of survival in the outback, being shot in the chest, an interview with the guy from Dirty Jobs, and a fluorescent dog! FHM August must be read to be appreciated!

South Africa's only weekly glossy!

It may be as cold as Cruella de Ville’s heart out there right now, but heat Towers is sizzling, and it must have something to do with the freshly implemented redesign. Nothing like a new outfit to perk a girl up! South Africa’s only weekly glossy has a brand-new look that’s stylish and elegant, but still bright and bold, with some fabulous new additions. Don’t miss the expanded StarStyle section with even more fashion and beauty than before and look out for the new Ask the Psychic advice column – the heat team is hooked and we bet you’ll be too!

The FHM Male Mailer

UCM Digital continues to grow and the team is happy to welcome our new UCM Digital Co-ordinator Brink Olivier into the fold. We also welcomed the inaugural FHM Male Mailer which is a totally redesigned weekly email for the FHM database subscribers, allowing us to expose our users to a broader range of online content each week.
